Our series this month is “Get Over Yourself”—stories of people who can’t get out of their own way until God intervenes.
This week, Dave Everson talks about hearing voices and being scared of the wind.
Back in May, I took a few days off for a personal retreat in the Finger Lakes. I was trying to listen to God and myself to help answer questions about where my life and leadership were headed. During that time I did a lot of reflection and writing. I also kayaked. Out on the water, God spoke and asked questions—often by making me confront my fear of the elements I couldn’t control, like wind and waves. On land I was trying to make headway on decision-making. Out in the open water, I was learning why I was struggling to make those decisions.
